What makes a great logo?
A logo is not necessary for every company, but if you do need one, it should be memorable and impactful. Your logo is often the first thing that potential customers see, so it's important that it represents your brand well.
People believe that designing a logo is all about how it looks. However, if you go beneath the surface, you'll discover that it's really about what it means.
So instead of showing any design or example, I will give you my thoughts about the general characteristics of logos. For sure, there are very famous examples of complicated ones, such as Coca-Cola that do not really convey a message. However, you will probably be better off if you stick to the fundamental principles. Or not!
A good logo is one that is simple, yet memorable.
It should be easy to reproduce in different sizes, and it should be unique to your company or organization.
A logo should also be easy to read and understand, and it should convey the message you want to send about your company.
What is a good logo:
A good logo is simple
Memorable
Easy to reproduce in different sizes (Your logo must be versatile)
Conveys the message you want to send about your company
A good logo is simple
Designing a good logo is all about simplicity. The more simple your logo is, the more memorable it will be.
Your logo must be easy to understand or explain. In other words, it is not complicated or confusing. A confusing logo is one that is difficult to understand or interpret. It may be unclear what the logo represents or how it should be used.
Memorable
A memorable logo is easy to remember. Even if it's a design or a symbol, it should yield a word or phrase. Something that is memorable is often worth remembering because it is special or meaningful.
When an idea or something becomes popular, people start to believe in it, and it becomes harder to stop. According to Malcolm Gladwell, there are certain elements that can enhance the probability of something becoming popular if it sticks. Therefore, a memorable logo will be one that is easy to verbalize.
Easy to reproduce in different sizes
It's not enough to have a fantastic concept, simple and memorable. Your logo needs to be easy to reproduce in different sizes. This means that it can be used on various marketing materials such as business cards, letterheads, and website banner ads. A good logo should also be easy to print on a t-shirt or coffee mug. To be able to do that, a graphic designer must have a great deal of expertise in all printing processes.
Conveys the message you want to send about your company
A logo is a graphical representation of an organization, company, or product. A good logo should be able to communicate the ideas and values of the organization or company it represents. It should be easily recognizable and related to the products or services offered by the organization or company. The goal is to focus your company's message on a single word or two.
But not any words will do, it has to be visual.
